Jean O'Connell

With more than 30 years of dedicated service to the Caesar Rodney School District, I have had the privilege of learning, teaching, and leading within this remarkable community. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from West Chester University and a master’s degree in School Leadership from the University of Delaware.

I began my career teaching 5th grade at Welch Elementary before moving to W.B. Simpson Elementary to teach 1st through 3rd grade. I was honored to be named Simpson Elementary’s Teacher of the Year twice, as well as the 2005–2006 Caesar Rodney School District Teacher of the Year. I have also served as an Assistant Principal at W. Reily Brown Elementary, Star Hill Elementary, and Robinson Elementary prior to joining McIlvaine Early Childhood Center.

My passion is building strong relationships and creating environments where all students can grow, learn, and thrive. My “why” is simple: to make a positive impact on as many lives as possible, especially those of children.

As both an educator and a parent, I value the strong sense of belonging within the CR community. I am grateful for the impressionable experiences this district has provided for my own four children, who attended CR schools.
